Didn’t need more than second gear to do them, and that’s what we did.

For me, it was Declan watch, and he did his job so well. He’s still getting better. It’s West Ham’s mission to improve with him, or we’ll lose him.

Barkley was ok, but it’s his position where we need better. We need an English De Bruyne, or a new Brooking or Bishop, who has vision and ability to thread killer passes. Maybe Madison. I’d like to see him get a chance in the next match.

What a fucking dull game. Liking the Bulgarian shirts tho...very smart. Anyway thats my incisive contribution to this thread!

Rice stats

111 touches
100 passes
96% pass accuracy
1 key pass
3 dribbles won
7/8 accurate long balls
3 tackles won
3 interceptions

Not bad!

Rice will improve playing with better players.

Luckily England are very strong too so he is not really used in his role so he’s never going to have horror games.

Every game adds two to three million to his price tag.

"Every game adds two to three million to his price tag"

So you have just accepted he goes?

If West Ham improves he stays for a long time

Come on now, Lily - get those rose tinted glasses off.

You can't mention Bishop in the same breath as Brooking and De Brunye.

Not saying Bishop was shit, but he wasn't international/Champions League class.

Let's put it down to it being Saturday and you having a few beers, eh.

Looked well out of his depth first half, I assume he improved in the second for all this wanking?

Didn't watch in the end.

Jordan Henderson has more England caps than Sir Trevor Brooking.

That's a Fomb, right there.

I fell asleep. Modern day football or just getting old I don't know but qualifiers in all competitions are a dull as dishwater these days.

To be fair, he was in the squad last season while with Derby.

I don't care who cunts you off. Bish was different class. No,he wasn't Brooking but he was a fucking brilliant footballer who was overlooked during the age of lumpers. He'd walk into our side now

Re: England vs Bulgaria - Rice starts
I'm with Bill. Bishop was a beautiful footballer, these days he'd be called a 'technical' midfielder. Back in the day in a 4-4-2 what he lacked in pace and defensive nous was at times exposed, but in a modern system which almost always uses three in central midfield or alternatively two deeper lying midfielders with an acceptance that one handles the majority of defensive work he would, no exaggeration, be mentioned in the same conversations as the likes of Pirlo or David Silva. In 25 years of watching West Ham regularly only Carrick has come close as a passer of a football, and even he was a way behind. I love Lanzini, but Bishop even now would have a thing or two to teach him.

Ian BISH Bishop was a quality footballer and remarkably he still has the same haircut when he graced the turf in claret and blue.

I note that some kid who's done fuck all with the rent boys got a kick. Fucking ludicrous.

Bishop was a good servant to us . Was excellent in the 2nd division and steady in the Prem. Could pass well. But was also part of squads that regularily fought relegation.

And he was as good as Pirlo and Silva?

Fucking hell you've all been on the sauce.

So we're comparing Ian Bishop, a player who never won a trophy, never played in europe and never represented his country to De Bruyne, Pirlo and Silva.

Ive heard it all now.

Bishop would have been the same level as Noble.

Aré people saying Noble is as good as De Bruyne, Pirlo and Silva?

I hope this is a wind up.

Not comparing him to Silva et al. However, he was technically far superior to say, off the top of my head, Carlton Palmer at England level and a load of other supposed "top" players to use a Sounessism back in the day when clattering someone was more appreciated than the ability to trap a ball properly and be able to pass a ball using either foot. Bishop would flourish in the modern game where skill and finesse rules over brute force. I'd have him over Wilshere all day long. And he took no shit from Roy Keane. Yeah, he played in Div 2 for us, so did Ludo, Julian, Bonds, Brooking...but he spent more time playing in the top flight

Lily Hammer 12:22 Sun Sep 8
Re: England vs Bulgaria - Rice starts
I merely mentioned England’s lack of a decent playmaker who knows how to pick a good pass to open up defenses. I mentioned first De Bruyne, who currently does this well, and then tried to think of similar players we’ve had who had that ability. Sadly, only Brooking and Bishop sprang to mind.

Point was, Barkley doesn’t have that ability. Maybe Madison does.

They’re a rare breed, classy playmakers.
